Forms to IBM DB2

Break Free from Oracle Forms with DB2 and Realease

Automating Forms Migration for Modernization and Lower Total Cost of Ownership

Oracle Forms have historically been a roadblock for organization wanting to migrate and modernize with DB2. The main issue is that the conversion was a manual process, requiring the Forms be rewritten in Java and any PL/SQL be rewritten into DB2’s PL SQL.

This manual conversion was a significant undertaking, even if only a few Forms are used by the application. The Forms themselves must be migrated to something that provides the same look, feel, and functionality of the original source. You must also think about how the database and related data will be migrated as well as the skills gap. Your developers and administrators obviously have the skills to run the Oracle environment, but how much time and money will it take to develop such skills on DB2? Luckily, this is all easily addressed.

Realease automatically converts Oracle Forms and PL/SQL code to Java. Not only is the legacy screen layout converted that was designed with Oracle Forms, but ALL of the associated supporting code; Menus, Libraries, PL/SQL procedural code, built-in functions, stored procedures, etc. can be automatically converted using the Realease tool set. The conversion process generates entirely standalone, portable Java code. And since this is 100% J2EE code, there are absolutely no proprietary software licenses required to run the converted code.

Using DB2’s Oracle Compatibility Feature, the Oracle PL/SQL components can run without modification in DB2. In the end, you have broken free of legacy Oracle Forms and moved to DB2, a database management system with a lower total cost of ownership (TCO).
